To create this explorative work, Luke has drawn inspiration from the song ‘Night Garden’ by BENEE. Painting predominantly using his cane as his application tool, Luke’s rhythmic movements are made permanently visible on the painting’s surface. The textural strokes can also be appreciated through touch.
The base of this work combines a smooth layer of blacks and translucent, pastel, purpley blues, layered with thick strokes of very translucent turquoise. Overlaying this are thinner brushstrokes of turquoise and white, combined with thicker areas of pale blue.
(This work has previously shown as part of Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize, 2021, and solo art exhibition ‘Luke Abdallah’, hosted by Nationwide Curating in collaboration with WOTSO, WOTSO Pyrmont, Jan - Apr 2023)
