Born profoundly blind and living with elective-mutism, Abdallah’s passion for accessible practice has prompted an exploration into multi-sensory mappings of environments. Here, the artist’s unique experience of Mount Annan, gathered through sound, smell & touch, translates into a work to be experienced both by touch & sight.
This work displays four black and white prints designed together, thick black lines are scratched from the top left to the bottom right, interspersed with delicate lines moving in the same direction. The texture of the shellac is evident in the print, causing soft, organic shapes in the background in shades of grey.
The plates are shown in a mirrored effect beneath the prints, with the strong orange-brown shade of shellac shown in the areas which are grey on their corresponding prints.
