Cane Painting #16 (Ebony & Ivory), 2021
Acrylic on canvas
100 x 149cm
Temporarily NFS
Luke created this gestural painting with his cane, in collaboration with his music therapist, Izumi Nago. Izumi played a piece of music on the piano, and Luke’s intuitive, swaying movements in response are translated into rhythmic black and white paint strokes on canvas. The background of this work is white, and black and white paint strokes eminate from the lower middle portion of the canvas. Large, white drip marks can also be seen as a final layer of the work.
(This work has previously exhibited as part of 'Push & Pull, Stroke & Stab' at Goodspace Gallery, Chippendale. Dec 1st 2021. Solo art exhibition ‘Luke Abdallah’, hosted by Nationwide Curating in collaboration with WOTSO, WOTSO Pyrmont, Jan - Apr 2023)
